Hi, I'm James Parker

Finance enthusiast sharing lessons from my own journey to financial freedom.

I started Simple Finance Journal in early 2024 because I couldn't find finance content that felt... real. Everything was either too corporate, too complicated, or just trying to sell me something.

I'm not a certified financial advisor. I'm not a Wall Street guru. I'm just someone who made a lot of money mistakes in my twenties, learned from them, and figured out a system that works for regular people like you and me.

In 2019, I was living paycheck to paycheck despite having a decent job. I had no savings, no investment plan, and honestly, no clue where my money was going. That year, I hit rock bottom financially — and it was the wake-up call I needed.

Fast forward to today: I've built a six-month emergency fund, started investing consistently, and most importantly, I've changed my entire relationship with money. Not because I got a huge raise or won the lottery — but because I learned to think differently about every dollar.

My Philosophy

Financial freedom isn't about being rich. It's about having choices. It's about sleeping well at night knowing you have a cushion. It's about saying "yes" to things you value and "no" to things you don't — without guilt.

I believe in living well today while building for tomorrow. Extreme frugality isn't sustainable, and neither is mindless spending. The sweet spot? Being intentional with your money so it serves your life goals, not the other way around.

"Money is a tool. The goal is to master the tool, not be mastered by it."
